Licensure

Hi there!
This is my way of giving back to all those who helped me in subtle ways to get one step closer to my goals.I will share what i did, what went right and what did not with you.Hope at least one person might find this useful.
The process of obtaining PT license is tedious, confusing. If one were not on the right track, could cost heavy on the wallet
and your future. To avoid those one needs to reach out and grab as much info as possible.I am trying to sum up some. However this is just a minuscule portion of info.I'll try and add more and more info as i go along. So Please feel free to come back, check in.If you have any queries drop a comment.I'll try my best to help you out.
I gave my NPTE after 10 or so years of College.I was,if subtly put, panicked about the whole process-not knowing where to start and how to start.
First step is tho select the state where you want to obtain the license. Now,the trick is to find out the requirements of the state i.e the Course evaluation tool they use, passing marks required in NPTE,TOEFL requirement,SSN,Fees and time lines involved.
To do that,Visit
www.fsbpt.org/RegulatoryTools/ReferenceGuide/index.asp on this page click on "regulatory tools" on the left hand side of the page and select 'licensure reference guide' from the drop down menu.and click on initial licensure requirement and then 'foriegn edu PT'(scroll down to page 11 for CWT info) or any other tab that you may need.Have a pen and paper to note down the requirements for the stae of your interest.
www.fsbpt.org/RegulatoryTools/CWT/index.asp this will give you info on what this CWT is and an idea of what you may expect-depending upon the CWT tool(for eg CWT5),what are likely to be your deficits.
So now you know what states are 'easy' on you.

Second step: Visit the State board's web page to find out about their registration requirement and the passing marks required for eg., Michigan needs 75 and NJ,i believe needs only 60(please verify) and the number of attempts allowed. For eg.,some states require the candidate to take a refresher course after 3 failed NPTE attempts! you will probably find the info on application and on the rules and regulations.
See the Credentialing agency they approve of.You can get this info from FSBPT web page but better to check the respective state boards web site.
There is FCCPT,ICD,IERF and so on
Third step: Contact the cred agency, compare fee, efficiency and how long will they keep your file open.Go through the website and send mails, read or call them ...check it out.Ask your friends...Below is the three most commonly used ones:
http://www.fccpt.org/ fast, have PLAN for credit deficit coverage,so far i have not come across any negative remarks
http://www.ierf.org/ online application, email communication, may take a while longer than the usual time they suggest. But keep your file for 5 years.credit deficits-you are on your own
http://www.icdeval.com/ tedious.has a 14 day priority service.
Please use your own judgement and select appropriate agency based on your needs.
